Governor Wike gives assent to 2018 Rivers Budget

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has signed the 2018 Appropriation Bill  of the state into law.


The governor  signed a budget of N510billion  passed by the  Rivers State House of Assembly.


Signing  the budget in the presence of members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the State Executive Council at the Government House Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Governor Wike assured that the budget will be implemented diligently. 


He said that the Rivers State Government  will fast track  the implementation  of the  budget, which  will lead to greater development of the state. 


‘I commend the State Legislators for expediting the  process that led to the passage  of the 2018 budget. 


“You passage of this budget means that we will expedite  action on several areas of development.  At present, we have already started work”.


The governor also called on members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to work with relevant agencies  to implement their respective constituency projects.


He said that funds for the implementation of the 2017 constituency projects have been released , while  that of 2018 will be released after  proper account is given for that of last year. 


The governor also signed the  Keenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic Law No. 3 of 2018, Rivers State Waterways Law No. 4 of 2018 and Rivers State Local Government Law No. 5 of 2018.


Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Ikuinyi Ibani assured Governor Wike that the State Lawmakers are committed  to the development of the state.


He described Governor Wike as a just leader who is working selflessly for the good  people of the state. 


Presenting the bills for assent, Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaehwule said that the bills passed through a rigorious legislative process.


Chairman, House Committee on Information, Sam Ogeh noted that the  public hearings and budget defence sessions ensured that the people participated in the budget process.


​Rivers State Government Traditional Rulers of Nigeria

The Rivers State Government on Tuesday night hosted Traditional Rulers from the 36 states of the Federation to a state banquet as part of the 9th General Assembly of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria. 
The  Nation’s Traditional Rulers are in Rivers State to deliberate on how to resolve the security challenges facing the country. 
Earlier on Tuesday, the traditional rulers discussed under the theme: “Community Policing as a catalysts to crime prevention – the Role of Traditional Rulers” .
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike led members of the Rivers State Government to treat the traditional rulers to the best of Rivers hospitality.
They were treated to Rivers traditional music, dance, drama and cuisine. The traditional rulers  also had the  best of comedy.
Rivers State Head of Service, Mr Reuben Godwins in a welcome remark extolled the qualities  of the traditional rulers in the development of Nigeria. 

Also speaking, Co-chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi reiterated his call for the unity of the country.  He praised Governor Wike for his commitment to the development of the state. 

Representative of President Muhammadu Buhari and Minister of Interior, Lt General Abdulrahman Danbazzau said the gathering at the State Banquet represents the diversity of Nigeria.
He stated that traditional rulers have tremendous roles to play in the development of Nigeria.




Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has commended the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army for the joint operation that led to the killing of Oluchi Igwedibia alias Obatosu, younger brother of Late Don Wanny.


The younger brother of Late Don Wanny who was amongst the 32 Cultists declared wanted by the State Security Council was killed at Sabo Iyakpe, Etsako West in Edo State on Sunday, January 28, 2018,  following  accurate DSS  intelligence. 


The Late Oluchi Igwedibia alias Obatosu played a prominent role in the New Year killings by Don Wanny gang in Omoku. 


Governor Wike declared that none of those declared wanted by the Rivers State Security Council will go free, saying  that they will all be brought to justice. 


The governor further declared that the N20million bounty placed for credible information  that will lead to the arrest of the wanted cultists is still in place.


He stated all those who participated in the New Year Mayhem at Omoku and any other security  infraction  in the state will be traced and brought to justice. 


Governor Wike stated that the State Government will continue to work with security agencies and other stakeholders  to ensure that Rivers State  remains safe.



The nomination of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike as the Leadership Governor of the Year 2017 was endorsed by two former Heads of State and a Supreme Court Justice, the Group Managing Director of Leadership Newspaper, Abdul Gombe has said.


Speaking while presenting the letter nominating Governor Wike as Leadership Governor of the Year 2017 at the Government House Port Harcourt on Friday, the Group Managing Director of Leadership Newspaper  lauded the governor’s leadership traits.


He said: “Your nomination was endorsed by two former heads of state and a retired supreme court justice. Success in leadership is built on a careful and deliberate plan. The governor has succeeded in leadership. “


The Group Managing Director of Leadership Newspaper said that Rivers State is reaping from a prepared leader who has provided the right leadership. 


According to Abdul Gombe, he thought that with the political activities in the state, Governor Wike would be distracted from delivering on his mandate.


He said: “But we are pleasantly surprised that Governor Wike hit the ground running and has delivered key projects across the state.  We have noticed what the Acting President means when he described Governor Wike as Mr Project “.


He said if the governor continues at this rate, he will get a National Platform because of his achievements in Rivers State. 


Responding, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike dedicated the award to God and the people of Rivers State who gave him the privilege to serve the state.


He said that he will sustain  the delivery of projects and programmes for the people of the state as he wants to promote the state as a place where things  work.


The governor urged the media to work towards the promotion  of democracy, because it will be bad for the country to lose her democracy status.


Governor Wike advised the media to insist on credible elections in 2019 for the emergence of persons duly elected by the people.


Governor Wike is Silverbird Man of the Year, 2017, Sun Newspaper Governor of the Year, 2017, New Telegraph Man of the Year, 2017 and Independent Newspaper Political Icon of the Year, 2017.



Rivers women joined the emerging tradition in the state  as they stormed the Government House Port Harcourt on Thursday to endorse Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for a second term. 

Also, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike declared that supporting the APC to form the Federal Government in 2019 is akin to digging the nation’s grave, as the country is already dead since they gained control in 2015.

Rivers Women  declared that they will follow their endorsement with massive rural and urban mobilisation of all groups  to vote overwhelmingly for Governor Wike in 2019.

The women in their thousands marched from Mile One to Government House, Port Harcourt, celebrating Governor Wike and creating awareness on his achievements. 

As they marched to Government House, Port Harcourt, they displayed banners and placards  urging Governor Wike to seek re-election. 

The women were drawn from the 23 Local Government Areas of the state, with each highlighting the projects executed  by Governor Wike in their respective councils.

In a solidarity message, Former Rivers State Chairman of the  Federation of Female Lawyers, Mrs Florence Amiesimaka said Governor Wike has made Rivers people proud through  development projects, hence the endorsement.  

She assured the governor that Rivers Women will stand with him all through the electioneering period up to his re-election. 

Spokesperson for Rivers South-East Women, Mrs Charity Demua declared that the women have experienced  good governance under the leadership of Governor Wike, saying that they will reciprocate by re-electing him.

Mrs Macetelli of Rivers West and Mrs Carol John of Rivers East stated that the infrastructural development have had positive impact in the lives of women and their businesses. 

Rivers State Women Affairs Commissioner, Mrs Ukel Oyaghiri lauded Governor Wike for his commitment to the welfare of Rivers Women. 

In his response, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike said that the all Nigerians irrespective of gender have a solemn  responsibility  of ending the failed APC Federal Government in 2019.

He said that the nationwide breakdown  of security, especially  in APC states, exemplifies the failure of the incumbent administration to productively  manage national resources. 

He said: “Nigeria is in crisis. Never in the history of this country have we had crisis of this magnitude.  Rather than resolve developmental challenges, they continue to give excuses for their failure.

“We must come together in 2019 to protect our votes. Supporting APC is like digging our graves. The country is already dead under their control. Everyday, the country is moving from one problem  to another. “

The governor stated that APC leaders  from the state take pride in de-marketing and destroying  the economy of the state for political reasons . 

He charged Rivers Women to jealously protect their permanent voters cards as that is the only weapon to uproot the APC in 2019.

Governor Wike announced a business development scheme worth N500million for Rivers Women in 2018. He said  the fund will be domiciled at the State Microfinance Bank and managed by the Ministry of Women Affairs.

He said the empowerment scheme will assist the women develop small scale businesses.  The governor also stated that the State Women Development Centre will be completed in 2018.

Highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of gifts by the women to the Rivers State Governor.

Governor Wike urges Nigerians to promote peace

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has called on Nigerians  to support the Armed Forces to promote  peace across the country. 

Speaking at a Jumaat Service in Port Harcourt  to mark this year’s  Armed Forces Remembrance Day on Friday, Governor Wike said that peace and unity are needed for the development of the country. 

Represented by his Special Adviser on NDDC, Mohammed Okiri, the governor said Armed Forces personnel made sacrifices to preserve the country.


He said: “We are calling on all Muslims and the armed forces to join their hands together,  so we can have a sustainable country where peace and harmony reign. 

“The governor  has invested so much in the security of the state.  We want this state to be peaceful all the time , so that investors  will continue to troop in.”

The governor reiterated his call for the creation of institutions  to cater for ex-servicemen and women. 

 He urged the military and para-military organisations  to stick to their constitutional  roles during the electioneering period.

Alhaji Nasir Uhor, Rivers State Islamic Leader, said that the Muslim community in the state will always use the Armed Forces Remembrance Day to work for peace .

Also speaking, Imam Abdulmalik Tanko urged the Nigerians to be good citizens who work the development  of the country. 

Rivers State Police Commissioner, Zaki Ahmed praised the ex-servicemen  for the sacrifices  they have made for the country.

National Development stunted by mentally challenged Ministers like Amaechi says Governor Wike 

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that national development has been stunted because of mentally challenged Ministers like the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. 

The governor said the recent outings of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi confirms that his mental status  is degenerating very fast.

He spoke at the Government House Port Harcourt on Wednesday when the management of the Silverbird Group presented his  nomination letter as the Silverbird  Man of the Year, 2017.

He said: “Former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has a serious mental case.  This is what makes it difficult for him to appreciate the seriousness of security issues .

“That is the kind of people that we have in the Federal Cabinet.  With such people, it is impossible  for the country to make progress. He needs urgent medical attention “.

Governor Wike said based on Amaechi’s logic, President Muhammadu Buhari needs to resign because of the nationwide breakdown of security. He said national security  is the direct responsibility of the President. 

He described as ridiculous the false allegation by the Former Rivers State Governor that he armed the perpetrators  of the Omoku killings.

The governor wondered why the Minister of Transportation would prefer to blame him for the killings in Omoku, while refusing  to blame the APC governors of Lagos, Benue, Kwara and Kaduna States  for killings  in their states. 

He stated that all the heads of security agencies in Rivers State were nominated by the Minister of Transportation. He said if there is any security infraction in Rivers State, the Minister should seek information from his nominees  who serve as heads of security agencies. 

Governor Wike said that the Minister of Transportation has deep-rooted connections  with cultists, having sponsored a cultist rusticated  from the state university as the Rivers APC Governorship Candidate. 

He said: “Amaechi is the one who manipulates the posting of security heads to Rivers State using the Federal Government.  They know what they are doing.

“If they are planning anything against Rivers State, they will not succeed”.

On the nomination for the Silverbird Man of the Year 2017 award , Governor Wike dedicated the award to God and the people of the state. 

He assured that the New Rivers team will continue to work hard to move the state forward. 

Earlier, the General Manager of Silverbird Group, Mr Jacob Akinyemi Johnson said Governor Wike emerged as the Silverbird Man of the Year 2017 after he garnered the highest number of votes online .

He said Governor Wike has been excellent by all standards . He said that the works of Governor Wike are visible across the state. 

The General Manager of Silverbird Group said that the governor was nominated following the visit to project sites by the Nigerian Guild of Editors.
