The Wife of the President Her Excellency Aisha Buhari has called on the wives of Governors of the South West in Nigeria to continue to collaborate for the improvement in the health and well being of women and children   

Mrs Buhari represented by the wife of the speaker of the House of representatives Mrs Gimbiya Dogara was speaking at the three day training workshop on advocacy for Reproductive, Maternal Newborn, Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) in Abeokuta Ogun State, Mrs Gimbiya Dogara, noted it was important that every one of us takes responsibility and strategic action to address these concerms in our immediate environment.

Earlier the wife of the Governor of Ogun State Mrs Olufunso Amosun said no woman should die in the process of giving birth and neither should children die in the process of coming to life. Therefore, adequate healthcare facilities and right nutrition are essential and we should all strive and work towards attaining this.

The workshop is a follow up to commitment made by the founder Aisha Buhari foundation and the wives of governors at a stakeholders meeting held in Abuja in October 2017

The 2017 event was held to build alliances that will help strengthen advocacy for RMNCAH+N at the state level.

Aisha Buhari is African Empowerment Legend


In recognition of her efforts to empower Nigerian women, Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari has been honoured as African Empowerment Legend. The award ceremony was organized by the Wife of the Governor of Katsina State Hajiya Zakiyya Masari on Tuesday 12th December 2017 in Daura, Katsina State.


Speaking on the reason for the award, Mrs. Masari said the recipient exudes qualities which are exceptional and worthy of emulation by people in positions of responsibility. 

She said Mrs. Buhari has been making donations to victims of insurgency and other disasters, helping the underprivileged, supporting and creating awareness for education and health thereby complementing government policy and encouraging the spread of philantropic spirit among privileged Nigerians.

Mrs. Masari also spoke on Mrs. Buhari's aversion for corruption quoting her dictum that without corruption, there would be enough resources to cater for the needs of all Nigerians.

Receiving the award, Mrs. Buhari thanked her host for the award and said it will propel her to do more, calling on stakeholders to improve the situation of women in Nigeria.

Earlier in the day, Mrs. Buhari commissioned a Maternity Complex. She also commissioned Muhammadu Buhari School for Science and Arabic Studies Daura, where she is sponsoring the education of 60 pupils.

In line with her empowerment drive, she also empowered over 500 youths with Sewing Machines, Grinding Machines, Spiralizers and Tricycles at a separate event.

Mrs. Buhari was supported at the events by Governors of Zamfara, Imo and Kebbi states, wives of the Senate President and Speaker of the House; Mrs. Toyin Saraki and Gimbiya Dogara respectively as well as 14 wives of governors among other dignitaries.

Deworm children regularly, Aisha Buhari urges parents

Deworming of children has been identified as a major determinant of children’s growth and development. This was stated during the deworming exercise organized by Future Assured Programme and conducted at Babasidi and Shadawanka Primary schools in Bauchi metropolis. The exercise is part of Future Assured Programme’s health screening and awareness exercise at Bauchi Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, on Thursday 23rd November, 2017.

Founder of Future Assured and wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, speaking through the programme’s zonal coordinator for the North East, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, said intestinal worms are endemic in Nigeria and is an issue that is being neglected by parents.

“Worms can lead to malabsorption of nutrients and therefore worsen malnutrition. It can also affect school performance and cognitive development.” She further said.

“Over 2000 children from the two primary schools have been successfully dewormed and as part of oral hygiene awareness, each child is given a dental pack made up of toothpaste and toothbrush.”

She called on parents to deworm their children regularly and teach them oral hygiene.

At the Specialist Hospital, venue of the Health screening exercise, over 3000 men and women were screened for blood sugar, blood pressure and visual acuity, while children were dewormed.

Each patient is tested for vital signs and gets to see a doctor, who prescribes tests and drugs, which are administered. Some of the patients were referred to the Specialist hospital for further examination.

The exercise drew doctors, nurses, matrons, laboratory scientists, pharmacists and health information managers, and was organized in partnership with Cry for Help, an NGO and Wife of Bauchi State Governor, Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar.

Mrs Buhari honoured by Nigeria-Morocco women business group

The wife of the President Mrs Aisha Buhari, has expressed her commitment to improving lives of women and children.

Mrs Buhari said this shortly after she was invested as the Global Grand Patron of Nigeria-Morocco women summit in Marrakech, Morocco.

She was decorated during the maiden edition of the Nigeria-Morocco Businesswomen Summit in Marrakech.

In a statement made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  her Director, Information, Mr Suleiman Haruna, said the award was in recognition of her commitment to uplift the living standards of women and children.

Haruna said Mrs Buhari was represented by the wife of the Speaker of the Nigeria’s House of Representative Mrs Gimbiya Dogara.

While expressing her happiness for the award, the wife of the President said that it was borne out of her passion for improving the lives of women and children.

” We organize medical outreach programmes, skill acquisition sessions, women empowerment programmes as well as advocacy for the rights of women and the girl child.

” These initiatives are the contributions we are making to ensure that the future of women and children is assured, that was why, I named my pet project Future Assured” .

She said the programme also provided an avenue for business women from the two countries to take advantage of the opportunities.

She, therefore, called on women to support each other and contribute to the economic development of their countries.

Explaining the rationale for honouring Mrs. Buhari, the chairman of the occassion Mr. Hassan Lahlou said her efforts at empowering women has been widely recognized and should be encouraged.

Lahlou said that, thousands of women have become self-reliant by learning vocational skills, courtesy of her Future Assured Programme.

He said the event was meant to establish Nigeria-Morocco Business Women Forum in order to strengthen business relationship between women of the two countries.

” The summit also provides opportunities for stakeholders to connect, share, collaborate and make plans on how to invest, grow, and develop women’s businesses both in small and large scale”

Aisha Buhari inaugurates free medical services for 3,000 women, children in Gombe

The Future Assured Initiative of the wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has inaugurated free medical services to over 3,000 women and children, suffering from different kinds of ailments in Gombe.

Buhari, who was represented by Mrs Zuwaira Gambo, Coordinator, Future Assured in the North-East Zone, urged the beneficiaries to cooperate with health personnel to ensure the success of the programme in the state.

She said that her Future Assured team in collaboration with other development partners had involved in medical outreaches across the country, especially in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps.

The First Lady, therefore, commended the wife of Gombe State Governor, Mrs Adama Dankwambo, for providing the necessary support to the medical team.

In her welcome address, Dankwambo, represented by the Gombe State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Rabi Daniel, thanked Mrs Buhari for providing succour to the less privileged families in the state.

Dankwambo assured the wife of the President of her continued support and collaborative effort through her NGO, the “Hajiya Adama Women Empowerment Programme (HAWEP)’’ to the less privileged families in the state.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner of Health, Dr Ishaya Kennedy, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Laraba Ahmed Kawu, said the programme came at a better time considering the influx of refugees who were displaced as a result of Boko Haram insurgency.

Kennedy said that the existing health facilities in the state were overstretched due to the influx of the IDPs.

He said the state government had been making efforts to address the health care challenges in the state.

The commissioner, therefore, thanked the wife of the President and the wife of governor for providing the humanitarian assistant to the people of the state.

However, a cross section of beneficiaries, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) expressed gratitude to Almighty God and the organisers of the programme.

Mr Daniel Danjuma, who is a diabetes patient, thanked Mrs Buhari and Mrs Dankwambo for their kind gesture.

Danjuma said, if not for this free medical exercise, he would not have been treated for his ailment.

On her part, Mrs Zainab Musa, thanked the organisers and prayed to Almighty God to provide them with good health.

She specifically prayed God to guide and protect President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Hassan Dankwambo, as well as give them the ability to deliver on their campaign promises.

NAN also reports that the programme was jointly organised by the (Future Assured) of Mrs Buhari, the (Cry for Help) of the wife of Zamfara State Governor, Mrs Asma’u Yari, and the Hajiya Adama women empowerment programme of Mrs Dankwambo.

The Health screening which covers over 3,000 beneficiaries in the areas of High Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar Check, Eye Check and provision of Eye Glasses, Diabetes and distribution of diabetes drugs as well as de-worming of primary school pupils.
